Floyds Knobs Elementary was recognized by the State of Indiana this Wednesday.  We received distinction for our 3rd grade IREAD scores.   Governor Holcomb and Dr. Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education, celebrated the achievements of FKE for being in the top tier of schools around the state.   96.6% of our 3rd graders passed the state's IREAD reading proficiency test.  
We have always adopted the philosophy at FKE that every teacher and instructional assistant who works with our students contributes to their scores.  With the guidance from our literacy coach, we teach reading from a holistic approach; operating from the lens of pre-k through 4th grade.  Early literacy skills begin in our pre-k classrooms.  Our kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade teachers/instructional assistants ensure that solid reading skills are developed.  The work of our teachers/instructional assistants in 3rd and 4th grades ensures excellence in literacy.  
This recognition comes solely from the daily work of our dedicated teachers and instructional assistants.  I am thankful your children are blessed with caring adults who provide intentional instruction.  Please join me in celebrating our dedicated staff.
